World Vision

It's time for my annual plug for the World Vision Gift Catalogue. If you've got someone to buy for who is truly that person who has everything, then why not consider something like this? You can buy a fish farm for a family in a developing country. You can buy school supplies or vaccinations for children living in other parts of the world. You can educate a girl in rural China for $60! There are many different options.

If you're planning on buying me a gift you can do this instead, if you like.

Hi Sue,

Every year the parents in my daycare and I donate money at Christmas to a charity. I have been looking for something for this year. This sounds like a great idea. My only concern is when do the orders have to be made by. Do you know?
Thanks
Melissa

I looked through the information again this morning and I couldn't see anything about a deadline for orders. I'm pretty sure that the first year Nick and I did this we did it around December 23rd. The only reason you'd really need to get it done early is if you want gift cards sent to the parents to let them know what you've donated. You may even be able to do this throughout the year. You can call 1-800-844-7993 for more information.

I thought of it for a 'teacher gift' again this year, but they still don't have anything in the price range I'd want to spend for a teacher gift.

I e-mailed World Vision last week to see if they could include lower priced items next year, but haven't heard back yet. I wondered if their implementation costs were too high for lower priced gifts.

Lynn, I see what you're saying about teacher gifts and the prices of them. I also got a catalogue today from Samaritan's Purse, a similar organization (they do the Christmas shoebox campaign). They have gifts starting at $10. You can check them out at www.samaritanspurse.ca. I know you're a World Vision supporter, but it might be worth a look.
