Funny Darcy Story

Things are moving slowly on the real estate front. The house has been on the market for over two weeks and we've had two showings and a poorly-attended open house. Because we're in a bit of a time crunch, we've already decided to do a price reduction to see if that generates any more interest. Here's hoping.

So, with all that going on, things are pretty stressful around here. With that in mind, I thought it was time for a funny Darcy story. This is one of my favourites, and I hope I can do it justice in my retelling of it...

I lead a kids' club at our church and Darcy attends each week. It's a fun group, we have a story/lesson time, games, crafts, snacks, those sorts of things. During this week's lesson I asked the kids if they thought that having lots and lots of money would guarantee their happiness. Surprisingly, they unanimously said, "NO!" I was impressed. When I asked them why, Darcy put up her hand. When I chose her to answer, this is what she said,

"I think it wouldn't make you happy because if you had lots of money, other people wouldn't have as much money and that would make you sad..."

Now imagine my pride here. I was so impressed with her grasp of the situation and her awareness of the needs of people around here. We've tried to teach her that we always need to be concerned about others and help them wherever we can. This proved to me that she was getting it. Unfortunately, her answer was not done. She went on to say,

"You would be sad because you wouldn't have anyone to go shopping with."

Rolling Along

Although we got the paperwork we needed from the government, we're still finding that a lot of the moving process is out of our hands and things still aren't progressing as quickly as we'd like.

Our house STILL isn't on the market. That's causing us a great deal of stress right now. We finally got clearance yesterday to go ahead with that. We had preemptively met with a couple of agents last week so this morning we called the agent we had chosen. She is coming to meet with us tomorrow (Nick is working today) and we hope the house should be officially listed by the end of the day tomorrow.

We're really pleased with the agent we've chosen. She's a pretty big name in the Windsor market and is consistently a top producer. She's very energetic and outgoing and we think she's got what it takes to sell our house. She also has two young children herself so she's sympathetic to our plight of trying to show the house with two kids living here. She's going to make sure we get as much notice as possible before viewings so we can get things in order.

Both of the agents who came through the house last week were really pleased with the look of it. However, they both recommended a little fix up to the stairway leading to the basement. We knew it needed to be done but were hoping it wasn't that big a deal. With both agents mentioning it though, we know it needs to be done. So I'm scraping wallpaper today and Nick will start painting tomorrow. The agent said she doesn't need to take pictures of that area tomorrow so it's OK that it's not done.

So, hopefully the sign will be in the yard tomorrow and we'll get some people interested soon.
