First Trip to the Dentist

Darcy had her first dentist's appointment today. Our dentist likes to see kids when they turn three. Because I was still working in June I decided to wait to book her appointment until July. Her appointment was booked for July 13th and then I was admitted to the hospital on July 12th. We finally got it rescheduled for today (along with overdue appointments for Nick and I as well).

She was great and she really seemed to love the whole experience, aside from the bright light in her face. She sat in the room while I had my cleaning and exam and even got to help hold some of the tools. Then it was her turn. There seems to be one hygenist there who specializes in kids. She told Darcy each step of the way what she was doing and why. Darcy loved the chair going up and down (she even got to help move it when it was my turn) and the little suction tool they use.

Especially cool in her eyes were the purple bib she got to wear and the purple rinsing cups they happen to use at our dentist's office.

The only down side was that the dentist said that from what he can see already, we should be saving our money for braces. Not cool. Hopefully that will change over the next ten years. It's not something to worry about now!

Wesley just slept in his car seat the whole time.

Emily is getting her braces on next month! I have to hand over $1200 to get them put on and then $240 a month for 2 years!! FUN! And Rob's benefits don't cover any of it!!

He can tell from baby teeth?

Haven't noticed anything with our kids yet, but the signs aren't good if it's hereditary! Neither of us had braces, but I had an "appliance" as you'll remember, and Steve's parents just didn't bother with his teeth.

Laura loves the dentist because she gets a toothbrush. Keeps asking when she can go again. She's been twice. Guess she doesn't realize you can get toothbrushes at any store!

We took Krystle in to see the dentist when we took Veroonika in for her first visit. Looking at Krystle they told us to expect at least minor surgery and probably braces. She has a gap between her front teeth where some of the gum will need to be removed for them to grow together. Didn't really want to hear that for a one year old!

Start saving your pennies now for Darcy and if she ends up not needing the braces you will have an extra bonus :)

I'm a bit skeptical as to whether the dentist can tell from Darcy's baby teeth that she'll need braces. So much can change!
